HPNA Joins NCC Members in Urging Senate Appropriators to Support Nurses in FY 2027
On June 10, HPNA and more than 60 other nursing organizations sent a letter through the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) to Senate Appropriations Committee Chairs Susan Collins (R-ME) and Patty Murray (D-WA), urging them to support Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs, the National Institutes for Nursing Research, and inclusion of bipartisan language recognizing advanced nursing programs in their definition of professional degrees.

CMS Proposes Coverage of Community-Based Palliative Care in CY 2027 Home Health Proposed Rule
Last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Calendar Year (CY) 2027 Home Health proposed rule, which includes coverage of community-based palliative care through the home health benefit. HPNA is currently reviewing the rule and its potential impact on palliative nurses. Department of Education Temporarily includes Advanced Nursing Degrees in Student Loan Professional Degree Definition
After a federal judge temporarily blocked the Administration from implementing a final rule that did not include advanced nursing as a “professional degree, the Department of Education altered its list of professional degrees to temporarily include MSN, DNP, and DNAP programs. HPNA continues to work with our nursing community partners and congressional champions on this important issue for nursing education and workforce, and we have endorsed the bipartisan Nursing is a Professional Degree Act (S.4568/H.R. 8691)

HPCC Announces APHSW-C® Accreditation
On June 10, the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) granted accreditation to the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC) for demonstrating compliance with the NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs for its Advanced Palliative Hospice Social Worker–Certified (APHSW-C®) program.

Retirement of Virginia Marshall, HPNA, HPNF, HPCC Chief Executive Officer
With deep appreciation, gratitude, and bittersweet reflection, we announce the upcoming retirement of Virginia (Ginger) Marshall, MSN, ACNP-BC, ACHPN®, FPCN®, who will step down as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (HPNF), and the Hospice and Palliative Credentialling Center (HPCC) effective March 20, 2027.
