In hospice and palliative nursing, Registered Nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate care for patients and families experiencing serious illness across the lifespan, including end-of-life and bereavement care. RNs are responsible for comprehensive assessment and ongoing reassessment of patient and family needs, serving as advocates, coordinating interdisciplinary care, and delivering education to support informed decision-making. Hospice and palliative nurses practice in a variety of roles, including expert clinicians, educators, researchers, administrators, consultants, case managers, program developers/coordinators, and policymakers, contributing to quality care across settings and throughout the continuum of illness.

The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (HPNF) received generous grant funding from the Jack Buncher Foundation and the Y.C. Ho/Helen & Michael Chiang Foundation to provide dedicated support and resources for hospice and palliative care RNs. This grant aims to connect RNs with meaningful networking, resources, and educational opportunities that strengthen their practice and lead to improved quality of life for patients and families living with serious illness.

Jennifer Krogmann, MS, BSN, RN, CHPN®, CHPPN®

For more than ten years, my adult palliative care certification has strengthened and validated my expertise, shaping the way I approach patients and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. Now that my work has shifted to pediatrics, pursuing pediatric certification feels like the natural next step in my journey. This scholarship allows me to continue growing into the nurse my pediatric patients, their families, and my colleagues deserve. I have recently begun teaching end-of-life care to the bedside staff at my institution, and this certification will further support my ability to guide, educate, and advocate with confidence and compassion. Thank you again for investing in my professional development and in the children and families I have the privilege to care for. This opportunity means more to me than I can express.
