The cover should:
- Reflect excellence in hospice and palliative nursing
- Honor 40 years of impact and legacy of HPNA authors & editors
- Convey compassion, professionalism, and clinical credibility
- Feel contemporary while respecting the organization’s history
Required Elements
Designs must include:
- Title: Core Curriculum for the Hospice and Palliative Registered Nurse, 6th Edition
- 40th Anniversary Designation: e.g., “40th Anniversary Edition”
- Space for publisher imprint (final placement may shift in production)
Do not include:
- HPNA logo (final logo files will be added by HPNA; do not recreate or alter)
Visual Direction
Encouraged themes (interpret creatively, not literally):
- The strength, leadership, and expertise of hospice and palliative nurses
- Compassion in action — presence at the bedside
- Advocacy, education, and leadership
- Mentorship, legacy, and the evolution of nursing practice over 40 years
- The human connection between nurse, patient, and family
- Professional resilience, courage, and integrity
- Diversity and inclusion within nursing
Designs may subtly reflect:
- The nursing profession (without relying on clichés such as stethoscopes or stock medical imagery)
Avoid:
- Generic healthcare symbolism that does not clearly reflect nursing
- Overly sentimental imagery
- Literal or graphic depictions of end-of-life scenes
- Visuals that diminish the clinical authority of the RN role
Prohibited:
- AI-generated art
Technical Specifications
- Final Size: 8.5” x 11” (portrait orientation)
- Include 0.125” bleed on all sides
- Resolution: 300 DPI minimum
- Color Mode: CMYK
- File Types Accepted: High-resolution PDF (preferred), AI, or PSD with layers intact
- Ensure artwork extends fully to bleed lines
- All fonts must be outlined or included
Accessibility & Legibility
- Strong title contrast for readability at thumbnail size (online LMS/store display)
- Avoid overly intricate or low-contrast typography
- Consider color contrast accessibility standards
Submission Requirements
- Submit file design here
- High-resolution cover file
- Brief (150–250 word) artist statement describing concept and symbolism
- Confirmation that all elements are original and rights-cleared
- Deadline: June 30, 2026
