Judy Lentz Scholarship: Promoting Palliative Care for Cancer Patients
In 2012 in recognition of her 12 years of service as Chief Executive Officer of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (HPNF), and the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses now known as the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC), the Board of Directors established the Judy Lentz Scholarship for the Advancement of Palliative Care in Oncology Nursing.
To honor Lentz’s retirement as well as recognize her roots in Oncology Nursing, HPNA/HPNF President Linda Gorman said HPNA members contributed to start the fund and the goal was to promote palliative care for cancer patients.
“My background was as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist before I came to HPNA and the intent was to solicit interest in an oncology person who might feel they too had a special love for palliative care and give that person an opportunity to attend the HPNA/American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Annual Assembly to learn more about the value of palliative care for the cancer patient, “ said Lentz.
“Over the past 11 years, the relationship of oncology and palliative care has grown and is widely valued and supported by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the AAHPM and HPNA,” she added.
The Scholarship provides a registered nurse, who is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, with a one-year membership to HPNA, as well as conference registration for the 2024 Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care. Applications are due by 12/20/23 and can be found here. For more information email info@hpnf.org or call 412-282-8220.
