As a broad overview of what will ultimately be included in the Administration’s FY 2026 budget, this initial blueprint stops short in meeting the nation’s growing demand for nursing workforce and research, especially as health care needs in our country continue to grow.

Now Available: Hospice and Palliative Care Orientation Guide
HPNA is proud to provide the Hospice and Palliative Care Orientation Guide for RNs and APRNs. This guide was designed to provide an eight-week orientation for early-career nurses or those new to the specialty of hospice and palliative care.
Each week features learning outcomes, acknowledges scope and state practice differences, resource recommendations, assignments, and key takeaways. This guide utilizes several HPNA resources, most of which are free for HPNA members.

FY 2026 Nursing Funding Request
House Nursing Caucus leaders are circulating a Dear Colleague letter that requests $530 million for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Nursing Workforce Development programs (Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2026. As you know, these programs are critical to the nursing community and support nursing students, nurses, and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). HPNA needs your help to get as many representatives’ signatures on the letter as possible to make a strong case to Appropriations Committee leaders to support this funding level for FY 2026.

HPNA Mourns Loss of Founding Member
The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) mourns the loss of founding member Madalon O’Rawe Amenta, RN, MN, PhD. Dr. Amenta was inspired to join the hospice movement in the 1970s after having read Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’ On Death and Dying. “Dr. Amenta’s unwavering dedication to hospice and palliative care inspired generations of nurses,” said HPNA President Masako Mayahara, PhD, RN, FAAN, CHPN®, FPCN®. “We are grateful for her leadership, which allowed us to grow our community to nearly 8,000 hospice and palliative care professionals. Her legacy will be honored through our mission to advance nursing expertise in hospice and palliative care through education, advocacy, leadership, and research.”

HPNA’s 2025 Policy Priorities
A new HPNA publication is available outlining our public policy priorities for 2025, which include: robust funding for nursing education and workforce funding, eliminating barriers preventing nurses from practicing at the top of their licensure and training, strengthening the Medicare hospice benefit, supporting palliative care research, and improving patient access to high-quality hospice and palliative care. HPNA Signs on to NCC Letter Supporting Nurses PRECEPT Act
The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) joined more than 50 nursing organizations in signing on to a February 28 letter from the Nursing Community Coalition to Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Representative Jen Kiggans (R-VA), thanking them for introducing the Providing Real-World Education and Clinical Experience by Precepting Tomorrow’s (PRECEPT) Nurses Act (H.R.392/S.131).

HPCC Announces Keisha Davidson, MBA, ICE-CCP, as Director of Credentialing
The Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC) is pleased to announce Keisha Davidson, MBA, ICE-CCP, as the new Director of Credentialing. In her role, Keisha will provide direction to HPCC’s eight credentialing programs, manage the organization’s strategic initiatives, and monitor adherence to its accreditation standards.
