Pain Management in Serious Illness/Co-Morbid Substance Use

Join us on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. EDT for the next edition of the APRN Education Webinar Series, when Kathleen Broglio, DNP, ANP-BC, ACHPN, CPE, FPCN, presents  Pain Management in Serious Illness and Co-Morbid Substance Use Disorder. This course is offered to all interested participants as a continuing nursing education service and to HPNA members with no course attendance fee.

The webinar is designed to provide knowledge on incorporating opioid screening and management guidelines into individual practice settings integrating practice approaches to manage pain in individuals at risk for substance use disorder, with active illicit drug use, on medications for opioid use disorder, and in remission and not in treatment. Learners will self-report intent to enhance practice by utilizing safe prescribing techniques for individuals with moderate or high risk for opioid misuse to prevent progression to opioid use disorder. 

Dr. Broglio is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and a Nurse Practitioner in the section of palliative care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She is currently the coprincipal investigator for opioid prescribing in ambulatory palliative care and interprofessional education in palliative and hospice care studies. Dr. Broglio developed interdisciplinary palliative resource champion programs, an inpatient pain management consultation service, and a pain resource nurse champion program. She served on the HPCC Board of Directors, was vice president of the Metro New York Hospice Nurses Association, and is currently the coordinator of the ethics series for the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing. 

This activity has been approved by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association to award 1.0 continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hour (60 minutes/contact hour) for successful completion and 1.0 pharmacotherapeutic credit hour award. Attendees must participate in activity in its entirety, attest to attendance at time of evaluation completion, and complete/submit online evaluation. The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) under provider number P0284.
